|04:49 pm - Haircut Help~!!|
19 years old and only been to the hair salon twice, once for grade 8 graduation, and the other at the insistence of my father last summer when I went to see him in China.
Now though, I wanna get a hair-cut, one at a salon and not by my mom who just takes the scissors and makes like she's trimming hedges -__- So, what's the usual hair-cut policy over here in North America? Do I go in with a picture of a style I want or how does this work? My hair style's always been really really low maintenance (aka I shampoo it twice a week, let it air dry, then spend 2 minutes every morning to run a brush through it before I'm out the door) and fairly long, usually between my waist and my butt so I don't really wanna cut it super short.
(here's 2 pics of my hairstyle right now: 1 / 2 you can't really see the back but it's just straight and goes down to the waist)
I looked through some magazines/websites for hairstyles and I found most of the hairstyles look really really similar....especially for Asians O__o;; And the ones that are different/unique requires gel, mouse, blow drying, straightners/curlers and 50 bucks worth of hair products a day not to mention a few hours to do every morning...no way am I investing so much on HAIR. Unlike Aiba and Kime my talent to mess up something as simple as a hairstraightener rivals my skill to procrastinate on essays.
I was thinking maybe just get some layers at the front, cut the back to between my waist and shoulder length, and get some dark purple highlights (yes I wanna try highlights, going to break my "never-coloured-my-hair" record, but black is getting so.....blah X__x). Maybe I'll just go in with a photo of Aiba or Kazuki and be like, "I want his hair except longer at the back >__>". That way I can still just take 2 minutes on it every morning instead half the day (I have morning classes first semester too, I'm not getting up at 4am to get my hair right for 8:30 classes).
Oh and another thing, how expensive _IS_ it to get a hair cut?? I know it depends on what style you want, but let's say I asked the person for layers in the front and purple highlights, does anyone know about how much that'd cost?
I feel so stupid, I can hold my own on international issue debates but I don't know how to get a freaking hair-cut -___-;;

haircuts can run anywhere between 5 dollars and 80.
but, DO NOT trust the extremely cheap ones.
I'd say go to a place that's mid range like $20-$30
i usually look at recent JP hair mags for inspiration, but sometimes i'll just go in with a photo and be like "cut my hair like Yoppy plz lol thnx"
and if your hairdresser is good you're not suppose to have to waste that much effort styling it anyways, and if she sucked just don't tip and move onto another one.
highlights are expensive, and they probably won't have colours like purple anyway, so just do it yourself.
ah ok, 30 bucks I can afford, I was afraid it'd be like, 100 O__o
I've never done highlights, so I'd probably mess it up really bad, but I can probably find a friend to do it for me, thanks for the tips!
*puts on gay glasses, girly t-shirt and fashinable hat* Is it hair you want my dear? Well, I love styles and all that girly stuff, so I may of be help.
Hmmm...looking at your face, I think you would want an edgy cut to frame it and bring out your pretty features (is this case, your eyes) Oh, killer eyebrows BTW, you'll wanna showcase those off. They're nicely shaped. I'm thinking now of pretty hairstyles for black hair that I like, hmm....oh, here we are
Sisi (Canada's Next Top Model) the sidebang is edgy, and by the looks of it, all you'll need to do is straighten it every morning, so it's not really "expensive" to maintain. Also since it's a "side" bang, you can see your pretty eyebrows!http://pics.livejournal.com/sexy_jill/pic/00047s5p
Although, bangs are the hotness right now, so if you wanted to go with them, they could turn out really nice with a shoulder length cuthttp://www.shingetsu-pgsm.net/gallery/kitagawa/keiko/scans/21.jpg
Although if you wanted to leave it a little longer, look how good it lookshttp://www.sailordream.com/PGSM/Multimedia/Cast/Sawai/Sawai01.jpg
Now, colour you say? If you want to dye your hair, don't stream too far away from your colour family. It could end up looking horrible. If you want to dye it, maybe a dark(er) brown would be nice?http://img60.exs.cx/img60/72/azamamew9tc.jpghttp://www.sailordream.com/PGSM/Multimedia/Cast/Ayaka/Ayaka4.jpg
Also, curling it from time to time would be nice, as shown below, not the Shirley Temple ringlets either, but wavy curlshttp://www.moonromance.net/pgsm/gallery/komatsu/ayaka/scans/22.jpghttp://www.moonromance.net/pgsm/gallery/komatsu/ayaka/scans/41.jpghttp://www.moonromance.net/pgsm/gallery/kitagawa/keiko/scans/18.jpg
Also, this hairstyle would ne awesome from time to time and it would amke me love you forever =P (but you're Mengyan, so I'll love ya anyways ;)http://www.moonromance.net/pgsm/gallery/sawai/usagi/scans/13.jpg
Well, there we are! Post piccies of your new haircut!
holy crap O__o you really worked on this comment didn't ya? lol.
Thanks for all those reference pics, they'll come in handy for sure!! You like my eyebrows?? I always thought they were too short and my eyes are way too small (when I smile I end up looking like Fuji...always eyes closed -__-). The side bangs thing does look pretty cool, although the hair always in my face I don't know how well I'd deal, but I guess it's still long enough to clip back...
I don't really want to dye all my hair, just a few streaks...and it's like all the Asians have their hair that dark brown colour so I'm kinda iffy about that shade (they tend to either have it that rich brown or the...yellowy brownish colour..my mom calls it the dead grass colour .__.)
That last pic XDD I don't know if I can pull off that kind of bangs as cute as it looks lol, and my hair's really really thick (ask andie) so when it's up in pig tails it looks really poofy (usually I find most girls' ponytails are as thick as one of my pig tails aka I have twice as much hair).
I'll probably end up getting a cut that's a mix of some of those pics, thanks!! Next time I have fashion questions I'll come to ya first!! Lol.
Yes, yes I did work on that comment ^_^
And I like your eyebrows very much, all the girls here have non-existant eyebrows, or really, really thin ones, and I don't like them, nor do I like the bushy cave man ones, but yours are in the middle and pretty
Thick hair? You should get it thinned out, or even layered.
Hee, yay! I'll be your go-to guy for fashion advice and porn =P
Thinned out?? How's that work? They can actually do that?
Yup. My friend Chantal has native roots, and has REALLY thick hair, and she gets it's thinned out.
So does the guy I like, Andrew ^^
You should go on MSN!
one thing I nearly ALWAYS forget to do, is to tip the hairdresser
but perhaps it's because I go to Asian salons?
I've gone in and used small ANIME PIN as reference for hair cuts before *laughs* but typically it's the safest to know really well the hair you want. Because the hair stylist is most familiar with the styles presented in the magazines they offer, I think you should show them your own reference (e.g. a pic of aiba) as well as select something similar from the magazines they off (e.g., "the back will look something like this, but longer" etc)
high-lights+cut is usually ~$70+tax+tip
for cheap people like me I'd just get the cut and get some reliable friends to do the highlights part XDD
So you _CAN_ use anime as ref pics XDD I was wondering about that. I just don't really know what goes well with my face since I don't have that classic slim face shape that most Asians do, even with Aiba and Kazuki, if I use their pics, both of them have oval shaped faces whereas mine is really round...grr...

*is glad that am not the only person left in the world that still get haircuts from mom*
I did get my hair permed and layered when I went back to Taiwan. I heard it was much cheaper there, but even so, it cost me nearly $150 USD. But then again, my hair is pretty long. Dunno how much it'll cost around here. I was looking to get dark blue or green highlights. The place I asked cost $30-$60 just for highlights. It'll probably be more for longer hair.
Lol, and I cut my mom's hair too! Although she just wants a trim when her hair gets too long so it's really simple to do.
I'm definitely not doing perms, those are so not my thing, but yeah, layering sounds nice.
Holy freak, wth did Jun do to his hair?? O___O
I have no clue. I still don't know if I like it or not. I just know he's really trying to win the competition for Prettiest Girl in Japan. It's him and Aiba in an all out pretty-off. XD
*drool* Mmmm.....pretty hair
*doubledrool* Mmmm..... MatsuJun AND pretty hair

OMG! I'm so happy that you are considering getting your hair cut! I think you should get a layered cut and add some coulour to give your hair extra volume and texture. You should stick to a very subtle brown, light enough to see a difference, but not light enough to make it stick out.You should also consider using some product in you ahir and spend a bit more than 2 mins. brushing it!!!(That's not styling anything!!!)And take it from me, someone obsessed with hair.Good Luck y buenas suerte!!!-James
Last thing I need is extra volume XDDDD My hair's way too thick as it is. I don't want to dye all of my hair, just some highlights, like a few streaks. I hate using hair products, it makes it all sticky especially in the summer time and if you use it day after day for years on end it's bound to wreck your hair. If the frizziness gets really bad some days then I might spray some hair spray to keep it down for the day, but otherwise, nope, all natural for me~
