|11:44 pm - Quotes to brighten the day!!|
We've all had our bad days, days when we just want to curl up in our
warm little blankets and cry our eyes out until there's no more tears
and then fall into a deep sleep that, often, we wish we can just never
awake from. Sometimes it's over something as small as getting
lectured for staying out too late, or maybe not doing as well on an
essay as you had thought you would. Other times it's a feeling of
helplessness and frustration at how messed up this world is; with
millions of people dying each day, it's little wonder that those of us
with no way to immediately change that situation would feel anger and
powerlessness. Whatever the reason, it's important to remember
that after 24 hours you'll probably be feeling a lot better and the
phase will pass.
But to make those 24 hours go by a little easier, I've decided to
compile a list of motivational and often philosophical quotes
here. I'll be updating this list with more quotes as I come
across them and I'll add a link to it from my userinfo page, so check
back if you're having a bad day. I'll be taking these quotes from
anyone, politicians, philosophers, personal friends (whom I'll ask for
permission first of course), etc. There's millions of quotes out
there from milleniums of history around the world, and of course I
can't possibly compile them all. So I'm only going to be adding
ones that really inspired me or made me pause and think, if you have
one/find one that you think should definitely be on this list, feel
free to send it to me!!
"The thing with democracy is that it's very inefficient, but the reason
it's inefficient is because you let everyone have their say."

"You just need to be a flea against injustice. Enough committed fleas biting strategically can make even the biggest dog uncomfortable and transform even the biggest nation."
- Marian Wright Edelman [added Feb. 3rd, 2006]
"For those who have seen the Earth from space, and for the hundreds and perhaps thousands more who will, the experience most certainly changes your perspective. The things that we share in our world are far more valuable than those which divide us."
- Donald Williams [added Feb. 3rd, 2006]
"I love humanity but I hate people."
- Edna St. Vincent Millay [added Feb. 3rd, 2006]
"I look forward confidently to the day when all who work for a living will be one with no thought to their separateness as Negroes, Jews, Italians or any other distinctions. This will be the day when we bring into full realization the American dream -- a dream yet unfulfilled. A dream of equality of opportunity, of privilege and property widely distributed; a dream of a land where men will not take necessities from the many to give luxuries to the few; a dream of a land where men will not argue that the color of a man's skin determines the content of his character; a dream of a nation where all our gifts and resources are held not for ourselves alone, but as instruments of service for the rest of humanity; the dream of a country where every man will respect the dignity and worth of the human personality."
- Martin Luther King, Jr.[added Feb. 3rd, 2006]
"You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty."
- Mohandas K. Gandhi [Feb. 3rd, 2006]
"Am I not destroying my enemies when I make friends of them?"
- Abraham Lincoln [added Feb. 3rd, 2006]
"Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born."
- Anaïs Nin [added Feb. 3rd 2006]
"The heights by great men reached and kept / Were not attained by sudden flight, / But they, while their companions slept, / Were toiling upward in the night."
- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow [added Feb. 3rd, 2006]
"In this world, there is nothing softer or thinner than water. But to compel the hard and unyielding, it has no equal. That the weak overcomes the strong, that the hard gives way to the gentle -- this everyone knows. Yet no one asks accordingly."
- Lao-Tse [added Feb. 3rd, 2006]
