01:03 am - Can't help but feel sad...
Went to Chinatown today for dinner with a friend. We passed by the Karaoke bar where the shooting took place this past Tuesday. There was a police car there and yellow caution tape surrounding the front door. People had put candles there and lots of bouquets of flowers too. I wanted to pause for a bit and give a prayer but since I was with a friend and it was freezing cold I didn't want to make her wait. Still I tried to quiet down our talking/laughter as we passed by the site. There were a few other people (I think they were Oriental) walking by and we were fairly loud when we were approaching the place, and I swear even though it was dark I could feel their eyes on us almost reproachfully for being rude and not shutting up. Guess whether I like it or not Chinese traditions' are still ingrained in me.

Such idiots for being at a karaoke club in the early hours of the morning (I think the report said it was 2 or 3 am when the shooting happened). I mean their poor families back in China, spending all this money to send them out to study and all these years raising them, and now having to hear from the police that they're sons are dead. What can possibly be worse?

You know, had you mentioned it, I would have stopped. I wouldn't have minded at all.

But I think that's the irony in all of this: being in an new place brings about new possibilities, new experiences, and new risks. Its sad to hear about this, but its good that you as an individual can still feel empathy in a world that is void of caring.Take care-James
