|10:48 pm - Fanfiction.net wank...why is the world so full of idiots?|
*Sigh*One of the dudes in this group, a "Lord Kevin" (ROFLMAO) has created a program called REDBUTTON that searches out fics that violate any of these standards, and then LU (Literate Union) reports it to the FF.net staff or they spam the author until the fic is removed. Something to that effect anyway, I'm too lazy to look up the details of this program, and I don't have the time to waste on it.
Another holier-than-thou moronic group of idiots infiltrating fandoms and churning out more material for fandom_wank.
This time the target is fanfiction.net, where a large portion of (predominately English based) fandom gathers to share fanfics they write. I have an account on there too, just 1 story posted though, some of the people on my f-list have more stories so maybe this might affect you.
"Literate Union", as they call themselves, has taken up a self-appointed mission to root out "bad!fic", you know, the fanfics with horrible grammar and whatnot, including the smutty type they deem too...shall we say unsavory?
The list of crimes an author can commit that would qualify their fic to be considered "bad" is as follows;
* Interactive stories
* Non-chapter stories
* Advertisement stories
* List stories (?)
* Stories based on chats/scripts/IMs
Anyway, not sure how serious this thing might be, I'm personally not too concerned, but if you have fics on FF.NET you may want to make a backup copy on your computer just in case it disappears on you courtesy of these idiots.
If you have time to kill and want to get a good laugh, here're some sites to check out related to this;
- fandom_wank's post
- Lord Kevin's lj (ROFLMAO, I can't stop laughing everytime I read that name XDD)
- georgasaurus' lj (one of the...founders? Leaders? of Literate Union, an 18 year old chick that didn't manage to outgrow her prepubescent years of feeling self-important)
- Literate Union's website (careful of the neon colours, may prove fatal to your eyes)
I don't think I've laughed so hard for many, many, many months now.
Here's a excerpt from one of Mr./Ms. Georgasaurus' fanfic;
"A sense of distortion washed over her, and she shivered before turning towards a massive building looming ahead. It was beautiful, in a strange way; gothic architecture with massive iron-wrought gates around its perimeter...and yet it held an air of danger...and madness. [...] Miranda dragged her nails across her scalp again, and then shook her head. She had no choice. Focused now on her destination, she set off towards the towering orifice." (Emphasis added by me.)
A reviewer pointed out that;
"An edifice is a building of imposing appearance or size, while an orifice is an opening, usually to a body cavity. This is especially important if you are asking someone to conduct a search."
A MAD TOWERING GOTHIC ORIFICE, SHE SET OFF FOR A GIANT ORIFICE!!
For someone leading a crusade against bad fiction...haha....XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
