07:38 pm - Asian Ball-Jointed Dolls
I don't know what possessed me today, but I suddenly felt this urge to buy one of those BJDs. So i went onto ebay to get an idea for price and stuff, and omg O_O these little things are freaking expensive!! i found two that i just fell in love with at first sight this little beauty and this one.   but damns one's like, 560bucks and the other's 700 plus shipping and handling fees >.< call me cheap but i really don't want to spend like, half a thousand bucks on a doll (that's my one month budget!!).

however, i do plan to one day buy one, so i'm just looking for some b/g on these things since i have no clue about anything regarding BJD.
-  i know u can get them at anime conventions (Anime north to be specific) are they cheaper/more expensive there??
-  and what should i look for when i go shopping for a BJD?
-  i know that u can change the wigs and eyes on these little sweethearts, but like, i'm assuming they match the wigs/eyes by brand (and size) to the dolls, so what brand is the most common/popular/easiest to shop accessories for?
-  and another things is i noticed the 2 dolls i've linked to are like, 60-70cm....that's a giant freaking doll O_O what sizes _do_ BJDs come in and what's the most common size??

thx guys!!

hmm....upon further readings, apparently u can switch the heads of these dolls too....kinda morbid but ok....and uhh...apparently there's also make-up involved ??? like u can order a doll with or with out make up =O_O= (but to order a doll with make-up is like, 50 bucks more according to the site below!!)

i did manage to find

which are cheaper and smaller (apparently they're uh..kids?? i can't believe there's a freaking story that comes with each doll O_O who needs barbies when u can have these babies XD)

BJDs! Well Im no expert but from the 8 months of owning my Ryo, I'll try to help you out~

Firstly there are a couple of sizes for BJDs; to my knowledge, the smallest ones are the Yo-SDs and Petit Ais, Im not too sure about their exact sizes. Next comes the Mini Super Dollfies and Dream of Dolls, they're round 43cm tall. Super Dollfies and SD13s are around 60cm tall and then the Hounds are round 69cm. ^^ I just posted a picture of a hound and MSD in my LJ a few days ago, so maybe you'd like to check that out ^^

All these dolls are fully customisable, which includes makeup/faceup. They don't come off with water as most faceup artists use acrylics, pastels and then spray a layer of Mr Super Clear over the face to seal it. ^^ This can be taken off with a remover, Im not sure but I believe nail polish remover and thinner helps. ^^ Eyelashes come under his category as well

Wig tape is not a must-have, but it helps. : D It's just a few strips of velcro on your doll's head to keep your wig in place. Strings are used to hold your doll together. They're elastic actually, but not all elastics can be used because of the tension needed to keep the doll together.

When shopping for your BJD, I suggest not just picking out the most popular/prettiest doll out there but rather, the doll that, in a sense, connects to you. ^^;; when you find that first doll, save like heck for it! XD There are many brands out there and some are relatively cheaper but don't let price sway your choice because, there is a diference in quality. ^^;; My choice brandand reccommendation would be Volks. : D

^^;; I hope I helped~ Good luck on the start of your BJD interest~

ah thx so much for helping me out =^-^= ur ryo is really really adorably cute, he was actually the reason i started wanting one and then i kinda shoved the feeling aside cuz i didn't have money (not like i have money now XD) but everytime i saw ur photoshoots with ryo i just wanted one of my own even more lol.

so for the make-up there's not actually a product made to wash it off? i'm seriously thinking about buying this one here http://www.dollmore.net/shop/step1.php?number=96 because as much as i love the hounds, they're kinda...big XD i ebayed volks but all the dolls are like, over 1000 bucks O_O that's 2 months budget XD wonder what my roommates gonna think of me having a 60cm doll in here <.< do u know of any other good websites for buying dolls/accessories/body parts?
