|11:27 pm - New anime, Hakuōki Shinsengumi Kitan (薄桜鬼)|
Just finished watching the first episode of Hakuōki Shinsengumi Kitan (薄桜鬼), a new anime this season based on a video game of the same name. GUH . So far it's proving to be one of the best animes I've heard of this season *O* I just really hope the female main character doesn't ruin it. I hate when an anime is awesome but one character ruins it (usually a female protagonist I find). Like Gundam Wing, awesome story but they just HAD to stick Relena in there, I remember back in the days of high school I was notorious amongst my anime friends for disliking female protagonists because they were always so whiny and....just....made me want to bash my head against my desk while yelling at the computer monitor . Takes a very special skill to create female protagonists that doesn't drive Mengya insane @__@;;
Anyway, back to Hakuoki, it's shaping up pretty good. Good animation, lovely character designs, a cast of some of the most famous seiyuus (voice actors), and of course, there's the added factor that it's about the Shinsengumi (add a couple of hearts to that factor alone XD). As I saw one forum comment say upon hearing the news of Hakuoki being animated "and the fujoshis go wild" XD Definitely, I can imagine all the fanfics, fanarts and doujinshis already (and Mengya has plans already to go raid the Hakuoki seciton of Animate the next time she goes *shot*).
Can't wait for next week for the second episode to come out. It amazes me how fast fansubbers subtitle animes these days. The first episode just aired like, 3 days ago and today the subbed version came out. I remember back in high school when I first got into anime, there was no such thing as fansub groups or any of the numerous download websites available today for anime. God how times change ~-^
*Goes back to re-watch eps 1*

* ♥ to fansubbers *
This looks so good! I'm definitely checking it out. Thanks for the rec! :DDD
If you want a good series with lots of action AND good female protagonists (there's two), you should watch Noir. One of my favorite series ever.
That be some pretty boys there. Now I must watch this. Because I am shallow like that.
lol at my school you wouldn't have been notorious at all! my friends (girls and guys)and i all hated relena.. hahahaha.. well there was one guy who had a crush on her.. he wasn't really my friend though LAWL
i completely agree that female protagonists in anime are whiny a lot of times.. their voices and faces me me mad! DDDD:<
(haruhi was great in her .. un-girl-ness.. lol)
anyhoos, hope you're having a great time, sounds like you are, haha. don't go too crazy now! :D

I KNOW! It's the same for me, with the Johnny's fandom! When I first got into it, it was practically impossible to find ANY subbed videos at all... maybe one or two, here and there. And those subbed videos were such a treat then. Nowadays fans are asking for subs the same day the program is airing and I'm like... how did everyone get so spoiled?
But of course it's fantastic that so many fansubbers are so devoted and fast!
And, I miss watching anime...!

I know what you mean. D: D: I mean, not because it gets into the way of the "boy love" as friends used to tease me. D| I find it annoying how they have to have at least one annoying female protagonist. :/ Miaka comes to mind....
Oh f*ck I couldn't get past the first episode because of Miaka, she was worse than Relena x__X
I watched most of it in Canto, so maybe that's why I was meh about it. h-haha. Although sadly, the manga was one of my all time favourites. :D;; I think her latest series of the "Fushigi Yuugi verse" Tanako? She makes a better protagonist.
Relena was alright, in endless waltz, but the rest of the series? urgh.
I find Yuu Watase has this knack for making female characters that just grate my nerves. One of the very first anime I downloaded from the internet back in high school was Ayashi no Ceres and I managed to make it through that without hating the main female character (Aya) too much...I think it was mostly because I hadn't seen much anime back then so my dislike of those kinds of characters hadn't....shall we say matured? But now when I try to re-watch Ayashi no Ceres Aya just pisses me off.
