|09:11 pm - In the office of Alexa McDonough|
With there being about a 99% chance that a federal election will be called next week and given the fact that Alexa McDonough, the MP (member of parliament) whose I've beeing volunteering in for the past 7 months having announced that she will not be re-running in her constituency today was one of probably the last times I was going to see her. Hence, I grabbed my camera and snapped a memory to be saved...she told me that if she had decided to re-run this time it would've been her 13th campaign. Can you imagine?!?! She's ran in 12 election campaigns!! O___O Halifax is going to have a hard time choosing a new MP and whoever that person is he/she's going to have some big shoes to fill following Alexa...
[EDIT]: I have refrained from commenting on the circus known as election campaigning that's being held by our neighbours to the south but...isn't McCain being a bit obvious he's trying to sway the votes of a) women and b) Hillary Clinton supporters with his choice for running-mate?? What's this chick done to deserve VP position? Win beauty pageants apparently O___o I mean heck, if you're a wonderful politician who's proven through years of work and dedication how amazing and talented you are at leading a country and you just happened to win a few beauty pageants before you entered politics, that's one thing, but this woman's had...2 years experience x__X
Oh well. Pretty soon we'll have our own circus up and running here in Canada so better start paying attention to our own backyard. Heck we still have a head of state who doesn't even live on our soil.
12 campaigns!! She must be an awesome person! :D:D She looks it! ^^
Yeah I know, when she told me I was like "O____O 12?!?!". I knew Alexa had been around for a long time but I didn't realize how many campaigns she'd run in. She's really sweet, and it seems from a lot of things I've been hearing/reading upon her announcement that she's leaving politics that even a lot of people who disagree with her or her party still respect her for her dedication to the job. I got really lucky being able to volunteer in her office and getting to meet her in person :)
Re:edit: Apparently she's a hockey mom and that's all I'e heard about her so far. Oh and she supports drilling for you-know-what in HER STATE! o_O
Well...it IS Alaska...can't imagine her being a soccer mom lol. That's not surprising that she supports drilling for the $Ka-Ching$ stuff in her state considering what her husband's into, hehe. Who cares about the state when you can use your position to get cash in your bank account right?
She's apparently also part of the NRA and likes hunting and fishing...what exactly does she hunt in Alaska is what I'm wondering. Owls? Snow hares? Polar Bears?? Seals?? O___o
Uh, well... digs... She was member of the city council and mayor? Palin was also ethics commissioner and chairwoman of Alaska's Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, and uncovered that severel members of the commision had conflicts of interest. (Though with her hubby himself being an oil production operator on Alaska's North Slope, I wonder if she didn't have conflicts of interest as well...) She also pushed her strict ethics as governor, overhauling the state ethics law.
The woman is scary, she's not nicknamed "barracuda" for no reason, and I only hope that Hillary supporters are themselves smart enough to look beyond gender. :-/
The place she was mayor of had, what was it, 9000 people if I remember correctly, and shovelling personal ethics to overrule state law doesn't sound like a particularly good thing O___O Especially given her severely conservative stance on things if what I'm reading about her is correct. Who in politics these days over here doesn't have conflict of interest, lol, that would really be a rarity. For a position as important as VP who would have to take over should anything happen to the president she seems severely lacking in experience, especially dealing with international issues and relations. Feels kind of like McCain just pulled her name out of a hat for this one, but whatever, not my country at stake. We've got our own set of clowns to deal with *sigh* A robot for a PM, an owl-like, head shrinking turtle for an opposition leader and a bunch of squawking seagulls all trying to out-screech one another -___- Scratch the circus, we have a zoo for a government.
Admittedly, the only thing of canadian politics that made it onto my news buffet is your HRC... It has destroyed forever my 80% positive image of the country. (20% is that it's simply too cold.)
The thing that scared me was what I saw on the news today! They went around the city telling people about her; they didn't even mention her name or anything, just that she was a woman and people were like, "Oh really?? That's great! :D:D:D" WITHOUT KNOWING ANYTHING ABOUT HER WTF

First of all: congrats with your successes through your work with the MP from Halifax- I bet it was an amazing opportunity! Secondly, I totally agree with the McCain comment: but I think nothing will come out of it, seeing as McCain seems to be (& probably is) much more of the same as his fellow Republican Bush. Unless Americans truly are stupid enough to take another 4 years of BS (mind you I'm generalizing about Americans, so no one attack me on that). I'm personally considering my options for this vote (of yeah, I registered to vote for this election seeing as I hold triple citizenship!!!)Take care!-James

Hey James, can you believe the stuff that's happening across the border? I mean I'm not fan of the Republican party nor of McCain or of his running-mate, but some of the conspiracy theories that people have been cooking up around the woman are insane!! It's like...Desperate Housewives...live O___o

I know! Did you see her speech last night? I have to say that I'm quite intrigued by her. She's got things working for her (her looks for sure. For an old lady, she's friggin' hot!) but anyways...it turns out that she is not the ideal candidate that McCain might have had in mind-hemust be kicking (literally) his advisors in the you know what for that choice!-James
