|10:13 am - Biased, slandering, crappy reporting; apparently it's the norm these days.|
WHAT THE HELL KIND OF REPORTING IS THIS?!?!?!??!!?
On August 7th, before the Opening Ceremonies, the Ottawa Citizen (local newspaper) wrote an article called "Chinese on platform by themselves?" talking about China's ambitions to sweep all the medals for the diving events. It starts with an intro to Guo Jingjing, a very famous diver on the Chinese team and known by many in China, but in the middle of the freaking article it says:
"...Two days after the opening ceremonies, she [Guo] will lead a Chinese team that is expected to sweep the diving competition.
They won't, of course.
Maybe even Vancouver's Blythe Hartley, whome Guo referred to as "the fat Canadian" during an Olympic test event in February, will beat Guo in her specialty, the three-metre springboard. Maybe it'll be Alexandre Despatie, of Laval, Que., who won silver in Athens and silver in the 2007 FINA world championships in Melbourne in the three-metre, who disappoints the Chinese."
Ok, number one Mr. Know-it-all-Panzeri, how the HELL do you know China won't sweep the diving competition?! It's a large ambition, yes, but what the heck is "they won't, of course" suppose to freaking mean?! Oh, and the blatant slamming of Guo's reputation by sticking in that non-referenced comment about a comment she supposedly made about Ms. Hartley? Yeah, way to go. So far, the women synch 3-metre springboard was taken by Guo Jingjing and Wu Minxia of China, as was the men synch 10-metre platform (Lin Yue, Huo Liang ), so you know what? PISS OFF! Who the heck do you think you are? A prophesizer?? The ORACLE?!?! Just for that I'm rooting for China to sweep the diving and leave you with your mouth gapping wide open as flies zoom in and out.
Bloody hell. I am so goddamn freaking glad I didn't read the newspapers on August 7th because I'm peeking through some of the articles now and everything is about these protests that foreign ignorand and arrogant morons staged in Beijing. I do know from a CBC report that 5 idiots, a Canadian among them, went to TianAnMen Square the day after the Opening Ceremonies and staged a pro-Free Tibet protest of sorts, but before the authorities got them away they got surrounded by Beijing students who yelled at them to "GET OUT". I wouldn't be surprised if all the other 'protests' were met with the same enthusiasm by the Chinese public and these biased newspapers just aren't mentioning the reactions of the Chinese people in Beijing to these antics of stupidity. I know some of the Chinese inside China (especially the younger generation, the students) have been aching to vent their frustration and anger after these past few months of bashing and slandering against the country, and these arrogant buffoons are providing them with the perfect opportunity to let off some steam.
Tibet was freed from its political system of slavery and the Dalai Lama's theocratic rule about 6 decades ago, even though the USA, through the CIA, attempted to keep the Dalai Lama in place and maintain Tibet's theocratic system of slavery where 90% of the Tibetan people were illiterate slaves to be used like animals and a top 10% of elites ruled. These idiots are a generation too late to be screaming FREE TIBET. Bloody hell stupid stunts they pull the less sympathy I have for them.
You know, by now no one has my sympathies anymore (not that anyone really *had* them in the first place, they pretty much just all failed to win them), not the Chinese, not the Tibetans, not the foreigners, not the IOC, not the hosts and not even the athletes. To me, the games themselves have turned into a Chinese internal affair that's none of my business in any way.
Reporting has been biased and manipulative for such a long time now. Unfortunately people only tend to notice when reports are against their own beliefs or povs.
No one bothers to look at the other side of the coin when what they see or read pleases them or is in accordance with their established opinions. *shrug*
Well, I've known that medias have been biased for a few years now, I just didn't realize HOW biased they can get and still get away with claiming to be objective and neutral.
Welp, you know my feelings on this...
China's got 7 golds in diving now, 1 more and I'm writing to this newspaper to demand an apology.
What happened to the enjoyment of the games? :|
Since its all been political now D:
I think they're just jealous that China is leading in the medal tally
Haha, enjoyment XDD
Canada was totally panicking during the first few days because we didn't win our first medal until day 8, and people were all bitching. Then when they see China winning all these golds people were like "well, their athletes are trained when they're really young under very strict conditions and they have no life outside of their sport, blah, blah, blah". It was so stupid, I mean seriously, just because Canada wasn't winning medals don't bash on other countries to make yourselves feel good.

Was probably just smack talk meant to get some readers riled up (and it obviously worked). It's poor reporting, to be sure, and all the more reason for the diving team to make the sweep a reality to put the reporter's foot in his/her mouth. (Also see the French swimmer's comment about beating the American team for more foot in mouth smack talk.)
Not sure if that made any sense...was up past midnight watching gymnastics :p
Well, China's got 7 out of the 8 diving medals, I'm totally writing in to demand an apology if China makes the sweep.

First of all, was that an opinion piece. If so, it was a really crappy one. And especially if it wasn't, then that is just horrible & slanderous journalism at its worst. Secondly, I completely agree with you on the protests issue: firstly, why would you travel to a country, especially a country that is graciously hosting you for 2+ weeks, to protest about something that a) you do not know of, b) is something more of a cause celebre than an actual issue & c)which is irrelevant to these Olympics which just so happen to be hosted by the Chinese! Those people are frankly, morons, & if they did that in my country, I would be most inclined to tell them to get the f*ck out.-James
I don't think it was an opinion piece, it wasn't in the opinion section. Isn't this ridiculous?? I can't believe how low our own medias becoming, and they're getting away with it without a hitch! This is insane.
