|05:40 pm - Trudeau-pride :D|
For those of you not interested into Canadian politics ignore the following.
Brian Mulroney go and jump off a cliff! You coward! Attacking Pierre Trudeau, one of Canada's best Prime Ministers (THE best if you ask me) in your goddamn memoirs, not to mention the fact that Trudeau's passed on so he can't be here to defend himself! If you're so great and wonderful then do something for us Canadians to make us proud like Trudeau did before you go belly-aching! If I had the money I'd buy your memoir when it comes out just to have a bon-fire with it >D Screw you Mulroney, you can slander Trudeau all you want but don't think that'll pull the wool over Canadians' eyes to what an awesome person he was!!

I had wanted to do the same thing with Viz's version of PoT, but then I realized by buying it, I would still be supporting them and that would be counter-productive.
The only logical way to get around this then, would to go steal a copy of it. >D
I don't believe that I have ever posted on your livejournal before, but we added each other about a year ago.
I just want to say thank you so much for writing this! Trudeau has been criticized for so many things since he was Prime Minister, but he was still one of the best (if not the best; I'm not familiar with the earlier ones ^^;;) that Canada has ever had.
Mulrony's critiques, themselves, are absolutely ridiculous. Blaming Trudeau for his anti-war attitude? Claiming that "when the Jews were being sacrificed and when the great extermination program was on, he was marching around Outremont?". Trudeau's peace protests had nothing to do with the holocaust! At that time, the extermination program was not even known by those in EUROPE. Mulrony seems to think that if he throws the 'Nazi' word beside Trudeau's name, it will turn the latter into some big, ugly, bad wolf. Trudeau was simply trying to stop a war, not to promote a holocaust. Not to mention he was just a revolutionary kid at that time.
As well, I found Meech Lake flawed to begin with. Mulrony is just trying to find something to grab on to in order to make people remember his miserable time.
Again, thank you again for writing this. It's great to read somebody standing up for Trudeau. I really don't know why Mulrony has suddenly come out with this. It's childish and pointless on his part.
Exactly. It seems all those high-up people love pointing fingers at Trudeau and everything he did was wrong somehow. If they'd actually shut their traps for two seconds and LISTEN to CANADIANS instead of swimming in their own little cliques maybe they'd have an INKLING of an idea why Trudeau was so popular. There is no right and wrong in politics, especially in democratic countries because all that counts here are peoples' opinions (just hopefully the majority won't vote for like, a genocide or something x__X) and as far as I'm concerned the results are in; according to Canadians Trudeau was an amazing person and Prime Minister so those elites can just shove it. If they don't like that, tough, deal with it, even if they don't like it Trudeau's the kind of person Canadians want as a leader of our country so I'd suggest they either learn from his example if they want the same legacy Trudeau's got or get the hell out of politics.
Those freaking sore losers on Parliament Hill right now, I mean is it little wonder why we don't like most other politicians, present and historically? Think about it, they don't listen to public opinion as soon as they get voted into office, they're non-responsive to the public (kinda like the lj staff during the past two fiascoes), they break promises left and right, they have one foot in politics and one foot in businesses and between public interest and personal profit we all know which one's more appealing to them, like honestly, the list just goes on and on.
And freaking Mulroney, who the hell does he think he is?? They may both have occupied the position of PM but comparing my respect and personal opinion of Trudeau and Mulroney, one's as high as the top of Mt. Everest and the other's as low as the Marianna's Trench (actually no, that special position's reserved for Bush Jr., but Mulroney's close, he's somewhere down that slope).
Well whatever, at the end of the day I doubt those morons on the Hill are going to race to change their attitudes or policies. As long as we, the citizens, remember the pride Trudeau brought to us as Canadians then that's what counts. The attitudes of most of the elites are profit-driven and useless anyway (ironic considering Trudeau came from a wealthy and elite background too...).
I hate the politicians we've got today, they themselves suck at complying to public opinion and then when someone DOES try they slam him/her for it and all pounce on him/her like a herd of hyenas. Why can't we have more politicians like Trudeau?? ;____;
Cat called Angela last night so I think Cat might have more info than me (actually Cat said she was going to call you right after she finished talking to Angela...).
I'm not sure what Angela told Cat about the plans as to what we're eating or anything, but I for one seriously can't afford eating out right now. My OSAP hasn't come in, and after the fiasco with Angela's cheque I'm out around $400 bucks right now until I can get to the bank and try to deposit that money again. Then on Friday in one of my courses I had to buy 4 text books just for that one course which I completely wasn't expecting, so I had to spend over $300 buying text books for just 2 classes.
But you should probably talk to Cat about the details since she and Angela were on the phone for a long time last night making plans.

Yeah I bought his memoir...just a bunch of over-glorified lies...he's coming to Indigo-Chapters downtown Montreal on the 18th...I'm there to ask him a question or two, you better believe it...I can't believe it...speaking I'll of the dead-that's a sin isn't it? I don't know where he comes off questioning Trudeau's integrity as a leader...and he's one to speak-since he's probably the most unliked of PMs, he's kinda like Canada's Bush-James
You actually bought it?? XDD
I give him credits for having the guts to take stabs at Trudeau, wonder if it's bravery or stupidity, I'm leaning towards the latter. I don't know too much on Mulroney, the only historical PM of Canada I'm familiar with is Trudeau, but from the people I've spoken to he doesn't sound like someone a regular Canadian would like for a PM.
I so wish Trudeau was still here, just to have that presence even to knock a peg or two out from under our current politicians.

Yeah...did you watch last night's CTV interview with Mulroney...he's not entirely a bad person, just a stupid one. The whole controversy comes down to machismo...since Trudeau opposed Canada's involvement in WWII, this makes him less of a man (in Mulroney's mind anyway). Mulroney is also pissed b/c he beleives Trudeau turned opinion over Meech Lake...though Trudeau was against a special status for Quebec, I can't really see him opposing something that had the potential to lay the foundations for better Canada-Quebec relations.-James
