There have been times in the past where I wish I can just forget all my morals and ethics, at least in regards to corporations and just enjoy their products. Forget about Coke's use of violence in Columbia to subdue workers, forget about GAP's sweatshops in China, forget about NIKE's workers getting 3 cents an hour in Indonesia, forget about all the pollution from gas-guzzling cars, forget about all of that, and just chug down a Coke with no guilt, wear corporate-made clothes with no shadowy conscience whispering in my mind, oogle openly at those racy sports cars without looking up at the sky hesitating to take a breath.
Then, it never fails that along comes a corporate worshipper and within the first 5 seconds of conversing with him/her my morals and ethics flood back into me ten times as strong as before. They probably lead a happier life, not looking around everyday in their closet and seeing 13 year old children trying to support a family of 8 on an 8 cents an hour job at a clothing factory in a run-down slums area of a developing country, after all, ignorance is bliss, regardless of whether it's acknowledged ignorance or unrecognized ignorance, but me? Well, it seems the life of an ostrich just isn't for me, so I always end up pulling my head out of the sand and taking a look at the often-times bleak reality.
After all, only when one recognizes the problems can one start to attempt at mending it.
