that was all over the radio and the news today.
Yeah? Awesome!! It was so exciting. At first I was a bit conservative about screaming at the top of my lungs, but by the end I felt like storming the Parliament XD
good for you!!! do you think it will help???
I don't know, but at least now those darn politicians know they can't just push us students around and expect us to sit on our asses and do nothing about it. And this is just the start, there's more events coming in the future months, so until they lower the tuition and freeze it, we'll keep applying pressure. This is a democracy and our voices WILL be heard dammit >D
i can tell you feel really strongly about this. i hope it works out for you.
i'll be in university next year... scary thought...
Lol, well if there's anytime in one's life to let out all the steam at the adults for oppressing us these 4 years are it.
I personally believe investing in education is investing in a future for Canada. Students are the next generation of the country, and if they're strapped down with debt, or if they can't even make it to university because they can't afford it, then what kind of future does the country have? Especially when you hear things like right before Christmas the MP's got a 25% pay-raise. I mean seriously, wtf is that?! O___o First of all the MP's get to vote on whether or not to get their own pay-raises, that's retarded, and second of all, who's ever heard of a 25% pay-raise??? If they have that much surplus then for heavens sake help the students out a little here.
the amount it is going to cost for me to go to university has always been my second biggest concern. my first was getting in but that's not the point right now. my family doesn't have a lot of money cause of how many people are in the family. so its going to be hard to pay next year. and i don't think i'm allowed to get a student oan cause of how much my parents make. but since there are so many of us we still have no money.
and if they honestly have that much money to thorw around to people who don't need it... then share some with people who do need it.
Exactly! See I think the only measurement of whether you get into university or not should be on your intelligence, NOT on how much money either you or your parents have in the bank accounts. Investing in the youth of today is investing in the tomorrow of Canada, and by avoiding that responsibility the government is totally giving the message that they don't care two cents about the future of our country!
the government doesn't give two shits. they just sit in their chairs thinking 'oh i have money so everything is good' they don't care about anything else. and it isn't fair. money keeps a lot of people from going to university. i know a few people who didn't get to go cause of money. not cause they weren't smart enough just cause they didn't have money and didn't qualify for a student loan.

That's great! All 4 universities in Montreal protested at their campuses, and then the protest spread onto Sherbrooke St. It was a great turnout!-James
YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE STUDENTS UNITED WILL NEVER BE DEFEATED!!!!!!
*winches in amount of fees*
And you guys have to pay this in full when you enroll? Or over the duration of your course?
But yay for the rally *cheers* Hope it got the message across.
Well we generally pay either by semester or by year (so 2 semesters, fall and winter in one year). Generally at my university it's about $6,000/year give or take some and depending on program. For some programs the fees are a lot higher.
Yeah those darn politicians, if they didn't get the message today then they're stupid AND deaf ~__~
I see. Its very different to here then. ^^; As we are able to defer our fees till the end of course. So we end up paying it gradually as we head off to work.
Yes hear hear >:)
ahahah, I'm glad you got the pics, it took me awhile to figure out how to send them, XD! My arm still hurts from all the sign waving.
lol i find it funny that i recognise some people in those photos.. and seeing pictures of ottawa and campus is making me all whimsical and nostalgic.. :P.
XDDD You see some friends in there? XDDD Yeah it would've been fun if you'd've been here with us, but next year next year, students always find things to protest about XD
lol not friends.. just pssa people lol
