|10:53 am - Saddam Hussein's death sentence|
Holy jeesus, Saddam's death sentence topped 4 of the news headlines this morning on my BBC feed @__@ Is it really that grand of a news? Not like the USA would've stood for any other sentence
Saddam Hussein sentenced to death
International resonance of Iraq verdict
Saddam: Showman without a script
Excerpts: Saddam's courtroom clashes
If I were him, I'd be happy.
I actually think the death sentance far less a punishment than life in prison. Imagine living the rest of life confined somewhere you have no desire to be, and knowing every day that you're never going to leave. To me THAT is suffering.
Whereas when you die... you don't care. You're dead!
If they were to put him in jail, that'd be unsafe I think. His supporters would probably try break him out, and people opposing would still try kill him. It'd be all crazy.
And he did that confinement thing, with his hole in the ground. Did nothing to him. He's still a nut. ^_^
I think it's important enough for top billing in the news. He destroyed the lives of countless people, they deserve to see that getting "justice" against him comes over whatever else might be in the news.
Yes but FOUR times? Even CBC didn't have it FOUR times on their news feed, I'd like to know about other people outside of Hussein too...
Well, it is really big news, and lots of people will want to know as much as they can. Plus, there isn't a whole lot of new news today. Middle East attacks, Kim Jong Il continues to be an insane little man... Things we see every day. It would be almost an insult to all the people who have been fighting to get some form of justice against him to have his sentence just be common news.
With America keeping as close a watch on the trial as they were, did you really anticipate an alternative sentence? Seriously, from the day America caught Saddam I had assumed he'd died already, accidentally shot in the head, mysteriously drowned in a river, whatever, especially since all last year I didn't keep up with any news. Only this year, when I started using firefox and getting BBC news feeds did it even dawn on me that the dude's actually getting a trial.
Well of course he was going to be found guilty. And that's not just because of US influence. Every country knows he did all those crimes, and would have made sure he paid the price. Only reason he wasn't shot on site was because there are steps that needed to be taken to kill a dictator. Though you know Bush wishes he could have done as the Italians did with Mussolini. XD

I agree with umbreallaof doom on this one. And even though the American's were keeping their eyes on the trail, Hussein has tried and persecuted by the Iraqi people and Iraqi courts. Also, the sentence will be delayed until verdicts are reached in the other trial he awaits (I believe for his other crimes). It is the will fo the Iraqi people, and so it shall be.-James
Umm...the sentence is already out James...it's death by hanging.
well about time I guess... the US took too long to decide his fate... *thoughtful*
but yeah better death then a life of prisonment

The death sentence is a cop out. I think he should stay alive and in jail until he dies. I think that is a MUCH worse sentence - but then again, who is going to stop the americans from having their bit of flesh? they need bloodshed - can't live without it.
