|09:52 am - Of Capitalism and Democracies|
I engaged in the Capitalistic practice of shopping and eating at a fast food restaurant today, I feel horrid. I'm sorry dear exploited people of the world living in poverty, but I desperately needed new running shoes and the temptation of a whopper was too great ;__; 19 years of propaganda by money spent in the millions if not billions to imprint the brand of Burger King into my brain proved too much to resist on this gloomy day, but at least it wasn't the clown from the land of McDevil.
On another note, my prof from POL 1101 (Intro to Politics) gathers great urges in me to start debates over the pros and cons of democracy. I firmly believe that regardless of what type of political regime runs a nation, whether it be democratic, communistic, dictatorial, monarchy, etc. as long as the interest of the common people is held with the highest value, then great achievements can be made, even under dictatorships, and a nation can flourish. However, if the leaders are corrupt, you can be democratic all you want, but the nation's still crap.

Yep. We're doomed... >_>
Exactly, cuz the leaders are 99% of the time corrupt and rule in their own self-interest, even in democracies with the prime example being the United States these days.

Don't feel bad. Unless you're planning on growing your own food and making your own clothes and never using any 21st century luxuries, you're pretty much damned to be a capitalistic creature. XD
and even then the seeds i buy for planting the food and the cotton for the clothes will probably come from some corporation unless i go foraging in the woods -__-;;

I agree 1000%!Democracy is not something to be fed and swallowed to and by the rest of the world...it isn`t always the answer.The interest of the people can be secured in pretty much any form of rule. Communism all the way! (You wouldn`t believe the looks I got for advocating communism for (I moderated it as a form of democratic socialism, but even still)Canada and the US!-Jameses
Oh god yes I totally get what you mean. I brought up communism in my development class, not even advocating it, but simply asking isn't that a better way to solve the issue of income inequality in developing nations instead of democracy (at least like, as a first phase, a stepping stone on the road to democracy even) since the basic principle of communism states that no one has more wealth than any other, even if it's at the force of the state.
Holy crap I felt like daggers were being shot my way by the entire class and the prof looked like he was about to fall over O__o, it's not THAT insane of an idea is it??
