05:17 pm - Happy Birthday Canada :)
So today's kind of a special day for a lovely little (or not so little) country up near the North.  It's a peaceful little country (for the most part), where the people worship animals like the beaver and the moose, and where polar bears like to wander into some of the cities.  We dine on beaver tails and poutine, and drown our pancakes with maple syrup while sucking on our maple lollipops and drinking our maple teas.

(I think the photo's from last year...)

So the day started out pretty normally.  A few jets zooming in the skies, some people setting off fireworks by the river.  Now it's 5:30pm and I think the alcohol's beginning to set in.  The joyful hollers of well-wishers can be heard outside my window, 17 floors below, and I can only imagine what Rideau St. is like by this time.  It was predicted to rain today, but it seems like the skies are holding off on it and so far it's been clear skies for most of the day.

Happy Birthday Canada :)

[EDIT]: Oopsies, almost forgot.  With all the news and focus over here being on Canada's b-day almost forgot that today is also a special day for another country on the other side of the world.  The 12th year anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China :D

[EDIT2]: It's 10:30pm, I can see mini-firework displays being set off all along the skyline, and can hear the firecrackers going off :D  Too bad my apartment faces just the opposite direction of the Parliament buildings and so I can't see the big show going on over in that direction.  It makes me kind of sad to think that possibly I won't get to celebrate next year's Canada Day in Canada since I'll most likely be in Japan ;___;  I'll bet you anything once I get to Japan I'll become some super-patriotice Canadian lamenting the awesomeness of this great country.  Distance has this weird ability to make all the negatives of someplace (or someone) dim and the positiveness to become emphasized in one's memory.

Lol, who indeed XD But from the response on the hetalia comm yesterday I'd say Canada's not as invisible as he thinks he is (or maybe it's just because it's another day off work and a chance to drink beer for us XDD)
