05:04 pm - Lj users, once again UNITE!! (Sounds so corny -___-;;)
It's activist week apparently. I turn around for 1 night to dig into another issue and BAM!! LJ users gather once again to confront our godly masters at 6A. Remember that post I made a few days ago regarding LJ's abolition of the basic account option? I didn't mention it at the time but apparently LJ had also censored users' ability to search various "questionable" interests such as yaoi, bisexuality, depression, even fanfiction (lol, ooh those darn fanfic writers!! Must purge our LJ of their evil little stories and imaginative ways XD). Ah the memories of Strikethrough 2007, how nostalgic. Well anyway, here's the gist of it:

So basically, on Friday, March 21st, 2008 we hope to have many members of LiveJournal provide LJ with absolutely no content for twenty-four hours (so remember to de-friend any RSS feeds you subscribe to for that day).

What's this about?
* It's about free and ad-free LiveJournal accounts being abolished for new members, ignoring the advice from the newly-formed Advisory Board.
* It's about LJ staff trying to sneak this decision in under the radar, and when people found out, telling the users it was done 'to make the signup process less confusing'.
* It's about LJ staff failing to apologize for trying to hide the facts from view and for lying about the actual reasons for their actions.
* And finally, it's about the latest decision to hide certain user interests from the list of Most Popular Interests, some of them being fanfiction, bisexuality, sex and depression. This decision was not announced or explained in any way. Users found out for themselves.

Therefore, the strike has four terms:
1. Restore basic accounts for new account creation.
2. Inform users before any change to the site that affects how we use the site or demands on our resources.
3. Run change proposals by the Advisory Board and take their advice into account before implementation of any change.
4. Homophobia, misogyny, and racism must not be a part of the decision making processes about appropriate content of the site, including which user interests are deemed appropriate.

NOTE: We are aware that there may be good business decisions for eliminating Basic accounts. If Basic accounts are to be eliminated, though, that action should be taken only after approval of the Advisory Board (2 out 4 whom had disagreed with LJ's decision to abolition basic accounts) and consultation with the LJ Community of Users.

The 24-hour strike will begin at the following times for the following locations:
Thursday, March 20, 2:00 PM -- Honolulu
Thursday, March 20, 4:00 PM -- Anchorage

So, 24 hours, no LJ, not so hard is it? And if you're feeling up for it, feel free to spread the word~

It isn't hard at all.

Actually, it's not 6A anymore. The owners are now "SUP" (don't know what it stands for). They're still fucking up the same ways though. =_=

Oh we got passed over again eh? Awesome, well we'll just have to teach this new bunch not to mess with us >D It's like everytime a new owner takes over we gotta have some kind of uprising or else they think they can change whatever they want without discussing or disclosing their policies. There was also that one thread of rumour running around that some Russian company was taking over LJ, know any follow-up for that? Maybe this SUP was that Russian company they were talking about?
