09:21 pm - A quick DVD rip tutorial for someone
~*~*~*~*~
Ok, so I've written this tutorial-ish thing, and explained how to use DVDx in about 10 steps.  Hopefully they're easy to understand, I myself hate all those tutorials that are full of computer jargon it makes my eyes cross.  It there's any problems or if there's places you don't understand feel free to ask ^o^

So first of all, download and install the program from:
http://www.mediafire.com/?3ymuenjejjy

Step 1)
After you've installed it, open it up, go to "File" then "Open DVD root" (as I've circled in red).

Step 2)
You should then see something like this.  Usually, the 'Title' with the longest running time is the main program you want to rip (the rest include the menu, any extras included on the dvd, etc.).  For this particular DVD I used, there's 2 main 'Titles', the 42:41 one and the 44:08 one.  For your's, there should only be one that significantly longer than the rest, select it and then click "Select".

Step 3)
After you've selected the 'Title', this window pops up.  Where I've circled in red, that's where you select whether you want to rip the video with the subtitles or not.

Step 4)
You might see the following two errors pop up after you click 'Ok' in step 3.  Don't worry, just ignore them and click 'Ok' for both.

Step 5)
Now your video should be opened in the preview screen.  Go to "Settings" and click on "Output settings"

Step 6)
Make sure that the very top box on the left side is selected to "AVI (DivX, YUV,...)" (sorry, forgot to circle it in red).  Then go to the "Video Codec" button I've circled in this picture.
ALSO, thanks to suthrnbellechan for pointing this out to me, if you want to rip the WHOLE dvd and not just by chapters, click on the "Whole" button that's on the right side (Under "Export Settings" by the "Max frame" field, see that "whole" button?  Yep that one ^o^).

Step 7)
Then choose the DivX compression.

Step 8)
After you've hit "Ok" and then "Apply" in step 7, go to "File" and click on "Select Output"

Step 9)
This is where you choose where you want to save the avi file once it's been ripped.  So click on browse and choose a place to save it in your computer (don't forget where you saved it!!  You'll need to find it again to upload :D).

Step 10)
You probably don't need to know this for this rip since you want to rip the entire video.  But just in case for future references, you can choose where to start ripping by sliding the little square thing I've circled.

Step 11)
Now everything's set to go!  Click on the record button and it'll start ripping the video into AVI.  You can also stop the ripping at anytime by click on the record button again (it changes to a stop button in the shape of a square when you click on it to record).

What I suggest is rip maybe a minute or so of the video, stop it, and open the AVI file to make sure the sound and everything's working ok.  Once you've checked that everything is in working order, then rip the entire video.  The last thing you want to do is wait a few hours for it to rip only to find out the final AVI file doesn't have sound or something's not working ^^;;

~*~END~*~

So, that's the end of the "How to Rip" tutorial.  Once you've got the video all set to go let me know and I'll help you through the uploading process too =^o^=

Hi! Sorry to bother you again :x But I have a question, after I open the DVD root and click OK this happens - http://img452.imageshack.us/img452/2052/untitledwx8.jpg

And if I just ignore it the DVD looses video quality. I'll best split it but I don't really know what are the files to split LOL

Thank you again

Hmmm....I haven't run into that problem yet...Usually if I was going to split up a file I would split it after it's been converted to avi. Can you show me a screencap of Step 2 using your DVD?

The problem is the DVD size is larger (4,12GB) than what the program allows(2GB).

Whoa, 1hr 50min, no wonder it's such a giant file. I'm in class right now so I don't have any dvds to try, once I get home I'll try with one of my 7GB DVDs and see ok?

Or! Just though of something XDD Use DVD shrink to shrink the DVD down to 4GB and then convert using DVDX. Do you have DVD Shrink? I can upload that for you once I get home if you don't have it.

I think that won't work because the dvd is already shrinked, it's 4 GB :X

Oh then that's really strange. All my DVD's are either about 7GB or about 4GB, I don't think DVDs that are under 2GB even exist. Ok, so if the DVD's already under 4GB, then the program should work...hmm...I don't know then...I don't know any program that splits VOB files so that you can split the file into smaller portions and then convert...maybe ask around on a software forum or lj comm??

Blergh, stupid programs XD
I found one that splits VOB files but you have to buy it ROTFL, it's Allok Video Splitter. The test version or wtv doesn't let you work with it. I'll search further

Oh if you found a program you might be able to download a serial number for it. Or go to download.com and in the search field type in "VOB file splitter" and see if any downloadable programs come up

Then I think I only have to install this:
http://www.adaptec.com/en-US/speed/software_pc/aspi/aspi_v471_exe.htm

And then... it'll all be ok LOOOL :X I HOPE XD

FINALLY XD I'm ripping the DVD now. I started yesterday but my lovely brother shut down the computer and the process wasn't complete. But I tested with 5 minutes of the movie and all was going great, the sound and the image ^_^
It's taking about 10 hours to rip the whole movie XD BLEEE so much time

Thank you a lot. After the rip I'll split it and try to upload in Megaupload and Sendspace ^_^

Hi, sorry to bother you but what does "ASPI not avaliable. DVDx won't be able to unlock DVD drive and to read bigger than 2GB (check for ASPI) driver update at www.adaptec.com) Do you want to continue without ASPI?" mean. Am i suppose to dl something else? ^^

Hey~ Is it something like this:
http://koneko-desu.livejournal.com/136230.html?thread=864038#t864038
?

I'm not really sure how she solved the problem, my best suggestion is to head over to her journal and ask her. I think what she did was actually split the VOB file _before_ converting it to avi...but I don't know what program she used ^^;;

OH! That's ezactly my problem! Thanks! I'll go and ask her. Btw, in step 5, you circled DivX 6.2.5 codec. I don't have it so can i use something other than that?
